# Setting Your Learning Goals

**Learning Is Not the Point, Changing Something Is:** A course you watched and did nothing with was entertainment. **Goals** are where you write down the thing you are actually going to change because of it, put a date on it, and keep yourself honest.

## What a goal looks like

**Specific Beats Ambitious:** Each goal carries the detail that makes it real:

- **What you are doing**, in your own words. "Get food cost under 30%" with a note that you are sitting at 31.4% is a goal. "Do better on costs" is a wish.
- **A target date**, so it has an edge
- **The course it came from**, linked, so you can go back to the material when you get stuck

The counters at the top show how many goals are still open and how many you have closed out, and the tabs let you look at **Active**, **Completed**, **Archived**, or **All**.

## Closing one out

**Mark It and Move On:** When it is done, hit **Mark Complete**. Completing a goal earns you XP and posts to your profile activity feed, so work you did on the floor still counts toward your standing here, not just the lessons you watched.

**Not Everything Survives Contact With a Real Kitchen:** If a goal stops mattering, **Archive** it to keep the record, or **Abandon** it and move on. Neither is a failure. A goal list full of dead entries you are ignoring is worse than a short one you actually work.
