# Replying and Voting on a Thread

**The Whole Question, With Context:** A thread page gives you the question in full, who asked it, and which board it came from. That context does real work: knowing the person asking runs a food truck rather than a fixed location changes what a good answer looks like.

## Reading the answers

**Know Who Is Talking:** Replies run underneath the question, each with the operator's name and their membership badge. The person who started the thread is marked **OP**, so you can follow a back-and-forth without losing track of who is asking and who is answering.

**Posts Read the Way They Were Written:** Formatting carries through. A reply with headings, a list, or a table renders that way for everyone, so a shared recipe reads as a recipe, ingredient table and all, on the web and in the mobile app.

Your own replies carry **edit** and **delete** controls, so a number you got wrong at 11pm is fixable. Editing reopens the reply in the same editor you wrote it in.

## Adding your answer

**Hit Reply and Say the Specific Thing:** The most useful replies here are the ones with a number in them. "Check your direction requests in the days after you post" beats "yes, it helps" by a mile, because the next operator can actually act on it.

**Bring the Numbers in a Table:** The reply box is a rich text editor with a formatting toolbar: bold, headings, lists, quotes, and tables. Pasting works too, so the costing grid you keep in another tool can land in a reply as a real table instead of a screenshot.

## Voting is not decoration

**Push the Good Ones Up:** You can vote on the thread itself and on any individual reply. Two things follow from an upvote:

- The answer rises where the next person with your problem will find it
- **XP goes to whoever wrote it**, so being useful counts toward your standing on the **Leaderboard**

You cannot vote on your own posts, which keeps the standings honest.

**Never Miss the Answer:** The bell beside the bookmark follows the thread, so new replies reach you. Starting a thread or replying to one follows it automatically, which means the bell is usually there to turn things off rather than on. How those replies reach your inbox is up to you, under **Account > Notifications**.

**Save It or Send It:** **Bookmark** puts the thread in your saved items for later, and **Share** gets you a link to send to someone who needs it.

## Closing your own question out

**Mark the Reply That Solved It:** If it is your thread, the reply that actually answered it gets a **Mark as Answer** control. Use it. That is what moves the thread into the **Answered Questions** feed, so the next operator with your problem lands on the resolution instead of having to read the whole discussion and guess which reply was right.

It costs you a click and saves somebody else twenty minutes.

## If something does not belong

**Flag It:** Threads and replies both carry a small flag control that opens the report dialog, with reasons for spam, offensive language, misinformation, and harassment.
